IGEL Technologies Joins VMware Alliance Program, Brings New Virtual Desktop Applications to Customers

Thin client solutions company IGEL Technology recently announced that it has joined the VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Alliance program. The company’s technology enables a variety of VDI-supporting digital and hardware services.

More specifically, the IGEL client can be used to deploy virtual PCs running on any operating system (including Windows and Linux) using ICA, RDP or NX digital services. This type of setup can then be used to enable server-based applications that bypass the virtual PC—such as VoIP, SAP (News - Alert) or mainframe emulation.

This technology lets users host desktops inside virtual machines running on centralized servers located in data centers. The virtual desktops are accessed remotely using a traditional PC, a thin client, or a re-purposed computer using a remote display protocol. This type of setup offers high security for sensitive data.

Using remote desktop in this way also lets managers set digital rights for VMware environments. The result is device consolidation, lower costs, easier management and more efficient use of servers.

All of IGEL’s thin clients come with remote management software, smartcard security support and an application called ThinPrint that enables printing in a virtual environment.

“VMware customers can now deploy their virtual PCs quickly, securely and cost effectively,” said  Stephen Yeo, worldwide strategic marketing director for IGEL Technology, in a statement. “We are proud to be a part of the VMware VDI Alliance program.”
