White Paper: CT Labs Tests CommuniGate Pro in a Real-world Simulation

VoIP offers many advantages, including the potential for significant savings. These advantages are greatly diminished, though, if VoIP doesn’t perform on par with traditional phone service.

Because of this fact, CommuniGate Systems (News - Alert), a company that specializes in Internet communications solutions based on open standards, developed an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)-compliant, carrier-class platform for voice and data applications. In a recent white paper, “Independent CT Labs Tests CommuniGate Pro in a Residential Environment Simulation,” the company highlighted how its CommuniGate Pro solution performed went put through a series of SIP-based performance tests, performed by CT Labs (News - Alert).

CommuniGate Pro is based on open standards, providing a rich, customizable communications platform with APIs available for JAVA, Perl, XML and native CG/PL development platforms. The solution’s real-time server is designed to deliver application functions for standards-based VoIP, video, IM, presence, messaging, and real-time collaboration.

To see if the solution lives up to its promises, CT Labs put CommuniGate Pro to some very demanding, real-world VoIP traffic flow tests. The testing approach was to emulate an active residential subscriber based engaged in real-world activities. To achieve this simulation, CT Labs used a realistic mix of SIP endpoint registrations, point-to-point VoIP calls, and application-based call traffic.

In order to discover the maximum number of subscribers that could be supported without failed or dropped calls, the test lab adjust traffic levels until a realistic mix was settled on. This included an emulation in which 95.9 percent of subscribers were executing registrations, 4 percent were conducting endpoint calls, and 0.1 percent were conducting voice mail calls.

The result? Not a single call or application failure was logged during the test. That’s quite an achievement. CT Labs reported that CommuniGate Pro is a flexible, scalable product capable of efficiently supporting large user communities.

The white paper includes much more detail about how the tests were performed, and the detailed stats that resulted. To read the full story for yourself, click here to access the white paper.
