DataPoint Acquires VelocityServer to Strengthen its Mid-Atlantic Service Capabilities

TMCnet Contributing Editor

DataPoint Inc., a Baltimore-based ISP and data center company serving commercial customers throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, has reportedly acquired VelocityServer, a Baltimore-based provider of dedicated servers, colocation and virtual private servers.

The transaction will result in the acquisition of more than 250 customers and additional data center capacity. Brent Pulsipher, a former principal at VelocityServer, is reportedly being installed as DataPoint’s full-time sales engineer.

According to Pulsipher, no employee positions will be eliminated and working with DataPoint was the next logical step in expanding capacity to address the growing demand for VelocityServer services.

John Glorioso, the other principal said that DataPoint’s customer service philosophies matched their own and the combination with their superior hosting infrastructure made DataPoint the perfect choice to step in and provide their customers with an increased range of products and services.

“We are, without a doubt, very excited about adding VelocityServer’s customers and infrastructure to our own and we welcome Brent as he becomes a key member of our team,” said Carter Smith, general manager of DataPoint, in a press release.

He continued: “VelocityServer has built a great reputation in the Baltimore technology sector. This new acquisition helps DataPoint leverage our existing infrastructure while further expanding our network footprint and our data center facilities in a manner that directly benefits our growing customer base.”

DataPoint is owned by Continental Broadband, a company which encompasses a family of commercial Internet data providers wholly owned by Landmark Communications. Landmark Communications’ companies are privately-owned and comprise a diverse group of award-winning publications and media outlets, including newspapers, television broadcasting, cable TV programming (The Weather Channel), and electronic publishing.

Established in 1999, VelocityServer is a reliable provider of cost effective and advanced hosting solutions. Strategically located in the heart of Baltimore’s Digital Harbor, the company’s data center has maintained favorable vendor relationships allowing it to offer the most cost effective hosting solutions possible.

Zitego Solutions, LLC merged with VelocityServer in 2004 to round-out the company’s offerings by providing managed services, web development and web design.

VelocityServer now has a software development staff with over eight years of professional web development experience that has written some of the most advanced web applications available in the area including its own advanced control panel.
