Hosting.com is a "Green Energy Champion" with Louisville Gas and Electric

Hosting.com has announced it will be purchasing 208 Green Energy blocks, each of 1,000 kilowatt hours, on a monthly basis, for the next 12 months. This is equivalent to planting 1,310 acres of trees or the removing 304 cars from the road.

With this initiative, Hosting.com will be the first “Green Energy Champion” with Louisville Gas and Electric, an E.ON company. E.ON U.S. is an energy services company which owns and operates Louisville Gas and Electric Company.

Generally, data centers consume up to 1.5 percent of all energy consumption in the country. Hosting.com provides managed hosting, collocation, disaster recovery and business continuance services to a global customer base which requires high levels of security, reliability and responsiveness.  With this effort, Hosting.com will be offsetting over 1,500 tons of annual carbon emissions.

Hosting.com monitors, manages and enhances Web based platforms for Web 2.0 companies, SaaS (News - Alert) providers, content distribution networks (CDN) and those enterprises for which Web presence is imperative.

Darren King, CEO of Hosting.Com said, “We believe it is our social and business responsibility to offset our carbon emissions. Our industry is one that must take a close look at its energy consumption and the impact it will have on the environment. We hope to set the industry standard on environmental stewardship. To that end, we have built one of the greenest data centers in the country, virtualized our server environments to optimize usage and output, and set up a program to reimburse all employees that participate in such programs."

LG&E and Kentucky Utilities Company’s Green Energy program enables growth and development of renewable energy like that of Mother Ann Lee Hydroelectric Plant, located on the Kentucky River.

LG&E and KU residential and small business customers can take part in this green initiative by purchasing green energy for $5 per month or larger purchases of $5 blocks.

Hosting.com and such other commercial customers can purchase blocks for only $13 per month. Each of the $13 blocks supports 1,000 kWh of Kentucky area renewable energy. These green energy purchases are voluntary and will be added on to the regular amount in the monthly bill.

“Hosting.Com is our first industrial customer to completely offset its annual carbon emissions. They’ve also done this in their California and Boston offices, and we are pleased they’ve chosen to take part in the LG&E program,” said John P. Malloy, Vice President of Energy Delivery, Retail Business, for E.ON U.S., parent company of LG&E.
