Riding the wave of a global phenomenon that’s seen energy-efficient information technology suppliers grow more popular, a Calabasas, California-based company today unveiled a new system to test power consumption.
Officials at Ixia (News - Alert) say their so-called “PoC IxGreen” solution is designed to help data center managers measure how much power their networks are using. The new system is being unveiled at Interop (News - Alert) Las Vegas by Ixia, a public company that provides IP performance test systems in 30 countries.
According to the company’s president and chief executive officer, Atul Bhatnagar, conservation ranks high among Ixia’s aims.
“Our goal is to provide solutions that benefit the environment, reduce energy consumption and offer real businessvalue for our customers.”
Ixia isn’t alone. More and more customers are seeking IT suppliers who are more efficient with materials and energy, less hazardous and more conscious of recycling.
Energy efficiency also brings cost savings – a major concern for executives, according to a recent survey from IDC (News - Alert), a subsidiary of the International Data Group.
In a so-called “Green IT Survey” published last month, IDC reported that more than half of all customers consider an IT vendor’s “greenness” when selecting a supplier. One-third of customers already consider it “important” to “very important” that IT suppliers have green products, according to the survey. And nearly 80 percent of executives say that green considerations are becoming more and more important in their companies, according to the survey.
In addition to the PoC IxGreen solution, Ixia is using Interop to introduce new modular chassis, a green alternative other chassis, with half the power consumption, according to the company. Ixia officials say their solutions also can be seen in a consulting firm that specializes in communications product testing and analysis. That company, Cranbury, New Jersey-based Miercom, conducted the industry’s first comprehensive green certification testing this year, according to Ixia.
