Fujitsu Limited announced that it will take part in the “Japan Design 2008 Innovation” exposition, which is scheduled to be held from the 16th to the 20th of April in Milan. This event is sponsored by the Japan Industrial Design Promotional Organization.

The expo is a part of the Milan Salone (Salone Internazionale del Mobile) a trade show on interior design where products ranging from cars, appliances, housewares and electronics will be exhibited. The exhibitors include 15 major Japanese manufacturers who will use the Milan venue to showcase their latest prototypes to the world.

Fujitsu has exhibited its concept designs for PCs, mobile phones and other products at several international expositions. Fujitsu provides customer-focused IT and communication solutions. Latest device technologies, reliable computing, communication products and other systems and services enable Fujitsu to deliver solutions as per requirements of customers.

At the Japan Design 2008 Innovation exposition Fujitsu will exhibit under the theme of sustainable design. It proposes to showcase its “WoodShell” concept PC, which has a wood-based housing and the FMV-BIBLO NX95Y/D a notebook PC with a part of its housing made of bio-plastic materials.

The WoodShell concept design uses natural materials like forest-thinned cedar and bio-based plastics for its housing and parts. Besides being an environment friendly tool the prototype PC also offers style and utility.

The FMV-BIBLO NX95Y/D notebook computer is another product born out of concern for the support and creation of a sustainable society. Bio-based plastics are used to make 30 percent of the plastic material used in the notebook PC’s housing, which does not include the key-board, one-touch buttons and some other parts.

Fujitsu introduced computer parts manufactured using corn-based plastic in 2002. Initially bio-based plastic was used in few smaller parts only but Fujitsu’s sustained efforts helped improve their properties to fulfill various manufacturing requirements. Now the usage of bio-based plastics has increased considerably in the PC.

This is an environmental friendly material which dissuades the use of petrochemical-based materials thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions according to Fujitsu.
