Verizon Intros Hybrid Sedans to Make New Jersey Fleet Greener

Just a week after announcing the roll out of forty new hybrid sedans to replace their all-gasoline powered vehicles and reduce carbon emissions in New York State, Verizon (News - Alert) is now announcing they will extend their green initiatives to New Jersey cities and towns with the introduction of nineteen new hybrid sedans to replace traditional Verizon fleet vehicles.

The company has said this change will result in an estimated annual reduction of carbon emissions of nearly 50 metric tons.

Making the switch to hybrid sedans helps ease the dependency on gasoline as the cars run on both gasoline and electricity.

Verizon president Dennis Bone commented in a statement to the press, "This will reduce the amount of CO2 emitted in New Jersey and serves as another example of Verizon's continued commitment to reducing the environmental impact of our offices, our plants and our vehicle fleet."

Verizon has added Toyota Prius sedans to their fleet, which the company notes, "can travel nearly double the miles per gallon and emit less than half of the carbon of most traditional sedans."

Verizon will roll out 100 new hybrid sedans in metropolitan areas across the country as a demonstration of its progressive corporate leadership. The 100 new hybrid sedans will reduce greenhouse-gas emissions by an estimated 263 metric tons annually, which will result in the conservation of nearly 30,000 gallons of fuel.
