Sonus Bullish on Future Based on SBC Market Growth

SIP trunking adoption leads to increased unified communications utilization, which, in turn, leads to greater need for session border controllers, which are helping drive growth for Sonus.

Why You Need to Know: Over the past year, Sonus has seen its total revenue ($73.2 million) grow 7.5 percent – 10.3 percent for product revenue and 3.4 percent for services. Despite a slight ($5.2 million) net loss for the quarter, a continued shift towards a software model (e.g., higher margin model) is likely to result in net profits, especially as NFV plays an increased role in networks.

This is Big Data at work, and it is only going to become more important as we move toward the era of driverless automobiles.

HBO's decision to launch an online service sometime next year has been rocking the technology, media and entertainment industry - despite almost a complete lack of detail on the anticipated undertaking - raising core questions for consumers, and the premium channel's current pay-TV distributor partners.

Why You Need to Know: HBO hints at efforts beyond the standalone web service, to go after the 80 million homes that the CEO says don't have HBO. And while going direct will attract many, it will almost certainly lose many from the ranks of its pay-TV partners, who have counted on premium channels like HBO to fuel their TV Everywhere customer retention efforts.

CPLANE Networks this week commercially launched its Dynamic Virtual Networks Interconnect product for wide area networks.
