Disruptive Third Computing Platform is Poised to Change the Global Economic Game

In theatre, the fourth wall denotes the imaginary line between the performer and audience. It's an important part of the process, providing a filter for the audience to view what is happening on stage. Breaking down the fourth wall can be exciting and disruptive, as actors go beyond the traditional confines of the stage to interact directly with the audience.

Why You Need to Know: The technology realm has many disrupters that serve in the same way, and the technologies surrounding communications and connectivity are poised to have a game-changing impact on the entire computing realm. Specifically, the "third computing platform," as described by research firm IDC, encompasses social technologies, mobility, cloud computing and big data. The third platform is already disrupting economics and operations across all vertical markets and is poised to shake up the entire global economy.

The Internet of Things Will Keep Demand for Standalone Bluetooth ICs Consistent

According to the market research firm ABI Research, Bluetooth is widely seen as the global dominant short-range connectivity solution. It has universal penetration with respect to the mobile device market, as well as being widely integrated in computing and consumer electronics platforms.

Why You Need to Know: The move to combo chipsets incorporating Bluetooth with Wi-Fi, NFC, GPS, 802.15.4, and FM radio, and the evolution of the standard to Bluetooth Smart and Bluetooth Smart Ready look is set to open new markets for the technology in low-power sensor-based applications, along with consumer markets.

Move Over Rover: TV Becomes the Top Household Companion

The "man's best friend" status has traditionally been claimed by our canine companions, but something entirely more technological (and less in need of maintenance) is apparently questing after the role: in a new national consumer study, many Americans said they see their TV sets less as entertainment devices and more as companions, with 60 percent of U.S. consumers leaving the TV on whether they're actively watching or not.

Why You Need to Know: Americans are continuing to redefine their relationship with television, to the point of incorporating it into the most personal of life's moments. In fact, more than a fifth (22 percent) admitted to watching or listening to the TV while they are intimate with their partners.

TrueConf Server 4.2.5 Offers a WebRTC-Backed Operations Boost

Conferencing systems are a huge part of the real time communications field, and as such, seeing advancements in conferencing that incorporate real time communications solutions work to advance the entire field forward. A new version of TrueConf Server—specifically, TrueConf Server 4.2.5—offers up some new value for users by incorporating pieces of Web-based real time communications (WebRTC) into its operations, while also offering a little something extra for users who don't have browsers on hand that can use WebRTC.

Why You Need to Know: While WebRTC has some great potential to be a major new form of communications tool, it's somewhat limited in that not everybody uses the correct browser to put it into play. That means there's a hefty chunk of the market that can't put these tools to work. But with TrueConf Server's new version, even those who don't have access to the correct Web browser can still put WebRTC to work, and make it a major part of operations.

Partners Will Maintain BlackBerry's BES10 as a Hosted Service

Those who are familiar with BlackBerry from its early days will also be familiar with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES). The BES continues to be comprised of multiple services that interact with a company's email system, such as Microsoft Exchange, secure IP tunneling, as well as giving administrators complete control over the company deployed BlackBerry devices, including the ability to push out apps.

Why You Need to Know: BES10 started out life as BlackBerry Mobile Fusion, which was a service that allowed an administrator to manage the new BB10 devices, however, it also allowed for the management of iOS and Android devices. BlackBerry is now offering its BES10 as a hosted service through several partnerships that it has developed with different companies worldwide. This is being referred to as BES10 Hosted.
