Fiber Mountain Launches OPX 2.1 from ITEXPO

By Maurice Nagle, Web Editor

ITEXPO (News - Alert) Anaheim 2015 is proving to be bubbling with announcements and releases shaping the next frontier of communications. Known for its strides in software define networking (SDN) in enterprise data centers and its Glass Core architecture, Fiber Mountain (News - Alert) announced the launch of its Optical Path Exchange (OPX) Release 2.1 from Anaheim this week.

This release is Fiber Mountain’s highest density layer 1 switch, and can offer connectivity from any port to any port for point-to-point as well as point-to-multipoint applications. The device is capable of supporting over 1000 ports..

The OPX is a software defined active layer 1 switch, and in Fiber Mountain’s Glass Core architecture it plays a vital role. The Glass Core creates a Virtual Connectivity Fabric via Programmable Light Paths (PLP) connecting directly with the data center network.

The release of OPX 2.1 comes with the ability to manage the OPX through a Web interface in a standalone application, or for larger deployments the Alpine Orchestration System (AOS) can be utilized. The RESTful API is also available for integration in the case of leveraging third party management and orchestration systems.

“The OPX creates very low latency optical paths across a virtual connectivity fabric,” said Fiber Mountain CEO, M.H. Raza. “Now with an integrated web-based user interface, the OPX can be used in stand-alone configurations for many new use cases, including video, monitor and tap, and network security.”

Raza participated in a panel on Oct 5 at ITEXPO on delivering next generation services and apps via SDN and NFV, and the Fiber Mountain team will be located at Booth #707 in the exhibit hall. Stop by, and the team will be happy to demonstrate its layer 1 SDN switching solution.
