Is Asterisk the Answer to Google Voice on the IP Phone?

The push to bring Google (News - Alert) Voice to work on IP phones is not an easy task. Basic analog phones seem to have no problem adopting Google Voice, but the growing number of IP phones in market today is making the Google application a difficult addition, especially IP phones that won’t allow non-credentialed registration on the device. It may be time for Asterisk.

At the same time, users are looking for ways to get Google Voice on their IP phones without having to buy more hardware. One telephony consultant, according to this Voxilla report, figured out a way to utilize Google Voice on his existing gear and has since opened the floodgates for others who want to realize the same potential from their hardware.
