Black Box Introduces Enhanced VGA Wireless Video Presentation SystemBy Amy Tierney, TMCnet Web Editor

Organizations looking to run projector-focused presentations without the hassle of cables have a new tool to make the task even easier for more users.
Black Box, a provider of voice communications, data infrastructure, and product solutions, is rolling out the VPS Plus wireless video presentation system, an upgraded version of its popular device that lets laptop users wirelessly access a VGA projector. The latest iteration will include new features such as PDA connectivity, four to one split screen, and the option to work with PCs and Macs.
VPS Plus is an 802.11b/g receiver that plugs into any display device with a VGA port. It supports Windows Mobile 5.0 and above systems for Wi-Fi links to handheld devices, so users can project images from PDA devices. In addition to mobile applications, the VPS Plus works with Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista operating systems. It also includes drivers in the USB token for Mac OS operation, the company said.
The system’s new four-to-one split-screen projection feature lets up to four users’ screens be projected through one projector at the same time, the company said. That means people can do side-by-side comparisons of presentations, performance charts, sales results, and other content.
VPS Plus will be available in August, Black Box said.
The system is designed for people who want more conference or training room collaboration, but doesn't want to run multiple cables to and from the VGA projector, Black Box said. The VPS Plus supports wireless connections up to 300 feet away, so the technology is well suited for large rooms, auditoriums, and lecture halls, Brian Kutchma, director of marketing, Black Box Corp. said.
“The primary advantage is wireless presentation,” Kutchma told TMCnet in an interview. “Anyone using tradition projection methods must use cabling and be tethered to the projector based on cable limits. With the last enhancements of the VPS Plus due out at the end of August, PDAs and other wireless mobile handheld devices running Windows 5.0 or above, can be used to run and control presentations.”

The single-box device attaches to a SVGA or WXGA projector and links to Windows PC with Wi-Fi capabilities. The device gives up to 254 people access to a wireless projector presentation, the company said.
Product sales of the VGA Wireless Video Presentation System have “exceeded expectations,” Kutchma said. “The response and demand for the product continues to remain very strong.”
