CounterPath Aids Belgacom with New Video IP TechnologyBy Jyothi Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributing Editor Telecom provider Belgacom has chosen CounterPath’s IP telephony technology to be part of its voice and video product line in Belgium.
CounterPath (News - Alert) Corporation provides desktop and mobile VoIP software products and solutions. Its product line includes SIP-based softphones, server applications and fixed mobile convergence (FMC) solutions.
Using CounterPath's softphone technology, Belgacom (News - Alert) introduced its Maestro 9000 videophone and Video Talk, a PC-based videotelephony solution.
“Videotelephony is a key component of CounterPath's unified communications offerings for both desktop and mobile environments, and this product launch is another example of European market acceptance for VoIP and video over IP technologies,” said Donovan Jones (News - Alert), President and CEO of CounterPath, in a statement.
Jones added: “We have been working closely with Belgacom to develop the Videotalk solution, which allows users to enhance their communications by adding visual context to their voice conversations, and we are excited to help bring such a powerful videotelephony solution to Belgacom customers.”
Belgacom officials said the company has been focusing on developing total solutions for the health sector and on communication services for specific target groups such as the elderly and the hard of hearing.
In fact in the past months it launched a number of videotelephony pilot projects, including applications for home care and communication solutions for the deaf and hard of hearing. The company says its takes interest to regularly evaluate the results with the participating partners in order to improve the solution.
Speaking on the occasion, Koen Tackx, Vice-President Marketing for Belgacom added that,” Videotalk fits the bill in the search for new technological solutions that can simplify and improve the daily lives of these target groups."
Further, to use Video Talk facility, customers must have a PC with a webcam, a Belgacom ADSL line and an I-Talk subscription. And one-time amount of €19.95 (about $26) is to be paid for downloading the Video Talk software.
