CVG Lands $1.2M Contract with U.S. Air ForceBy Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributing Editor CVG, a provider of satellite-based communications solutions, recently announced that the company was awarded with a contract by the U.S. Air Force's Air Combat Command worth $1.2 million, in order to provide portable satellite communication kits.
According to the contract, CVG will be providing U.S. Air Combat Command with its CFK-100 compact flyaway kits, which facilitates in a secure satellite communications (SATCOM) and as well as encrypted networking solution. It provides both secure and non-secure communications through an Ethernet connection.
The CFK 100 is an integrated flyaway kit, which is packed in two carry-on-sized backpacks / airline carry-on cases.
Key features of the portable SATCOM kits include: a Thrane & Thrane (News - Alert) Explorer 700 broadband global area network (BGAN) terminal- for communications from anywhere; a KOV-26 Talon Type 1 encryption PCMCIA (personal computer memory card international association) card; two CISCO 871 routers for red and black networks in which the black router is removable for red/black separation; extra hard drive to enable users to meet red/black separation requirements; a Panasonic (News - Alert) CF-19 ruggerized laptop, which acts as the red gateway; a scanner; a UPS supported by BB 2590 rechargeable lithium ion batteries; and additional 802.3af Power-Over-Ethernet for VoIP voice communications.
According to CVG, for legacy secure networks – the kit is also provided with a storage space for a secure terminal equipment (STE) telephone and as well as network connection via a KlasHopper PCMCIA card.
