D-Link Canada Offers Power-Saving WiFi Home Networking RoutersBy Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributing Editor D-Link (News - Alert) Canada reportedly is offering “green” home network WiFi routers that reduce user’s power consumption.
The introduction of the “Green Ethernet-enabled D-Link WiFi (News - Alert) Router” series is part of an ongoing company-wide computing initiative that includes manufacturing environmentally responsible products, optimizing devices for ENERGY STAR (News - Alert) certification, providing consumer education and recycling programs, and distributing the network technology industry brief, titled “Green Computing and D-Link: The Green Movement and Specific D-Link Solutions Reduce Detrimental Impacts on the Environment.”
The WiFi routers integrate D-Link Green Ethernet technology, an innovative energy-saving technology that automatically detects link status and network cable length, and then adjusts power accordingly.
The D-Link routers also feature WiFi scheduling that allows customers to easily program when the WiFi radio signals are turned on and off to further save energy consumption.
The D-Link Green WiFi Routers achieve optimal energy savings when used with the WiFi Scheduler, which provides a user-selectable radio shutdown option (adjustable by day and start/end times). Under the most favorable conditions, with no wired links active and WiFi turned off, users may achieve DIR-655, up to 32 percent, and DGL-4500, up to 31 percent.
Now available and incorporating the green technology are the D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router (DIR-655) and the D-Link Xtreme N Gaming Router ( DGL-4500).
“This announcement is an important one for D-Link Canada, as we continue to show our commitment to providing customers with new innovative ideas while not sacrificing performance or functionality,” said Lou Reda, vice president of channel sales at D-Link Canada. “By providing these new green upgrades to our most popular WiFi routers, customers are able to help protect the environment while saving money in the process.”
