BroadSoft and RADVISION Unite Mobile VoIP Features
By Cindy Waxer, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Mobile phone enthusiasts now have a new weapon. BroadSoft ( News - Alert), a provider of VoIP application software, and RADVISION, a provider of video network infrastructure and developer tools for unified visual communications over IP , 3G, and emerging next-generation networks, today announced a collaborative solution to offer mobile operators the capability to deliver video VoIP services over 3G networks.
BroadSoft and RADVISION have completed interoperability testing and are demonstrating their interop solution at the 3GSM ( News - Alert) World Congress.
BroadSoft and RADVISION interoperability combines BroadSoft's BroadWorks VoIP application platform with RADVISION's SCOPIA Interactive Video Platform to provide video-enabled VoIP services over 3G mobile and landline video phones. The BroadSoft-RADVISION solution allows mobile operators and landline service providers that offer fixed-mobile converged (FMC) services to create new, dynamic service offerings for enterprise and consumer end-users.
The IMS-ready solution allows service providers to offer RADVISION's video conferencing and other interactive applications with BroadSoft's complete range of BroadWorks advanced voice features, such as user-configurable voicemail-to-email, click to dial and find-me-follow-me capabilities.
RADVISION's Interactive Video Platform enables exciting interactive wireless multimedia communication services, which combine live and stored video content from different sources of video, including wireless 3G devices, PCs, surveillance cameras and streaming content network sources. BroadSoft's BroadWorks Communicator is a multimedia solution that can act as the video client for 3G-to-video calling, bringing a simple GUI-driven, brandable video client to the end-user's PC.
According to Alon Barnea, general manager of RADVISION's mobility & service provider business unit: “This synergistic offering creates compelling, dynamic new functionalities that enrich video enabled conferencing and other applications over 3G mobile phones, video desk phones and PCs.”
“Marrying the scalability and innumerable features of BroadWorks with RADVISION's Interactive Video Platform, and delivering this solution to mobile phones allows service providers to create new revenue-generating services, including video conferencing, mobile training and more,” said Scott Hoffpauir, CTO for BroadSoft. “Mobile service providers can use this as a killer app in the battle for the enterprise.”
Last week, RADVISION announced that its fourth-quarter profit climbed 34 percent on a tax benefit and increased revenue. Net income grew to $7.2 million, or 31 cents per share, from $5.4 million, or 24 cents per share, during the same period a year ago. The current quarter included a $2.1 million, or 9-cent per share tax benefit and a stock-based compensation charge of $1.3 million, or 6 cents per share.
