To paraphrase and update an old saying that has become particularly relevant for communications, The next best thing to being there is having a great remote user experience. Ever since Morse, Marconi, Bell and a few others turned the history of remote communications from a subset of transportation (trains, ships, railroads, the Pony Express, etc.) the goal of those in the business of using dedicated communications media (cable and wireless) has been to provide user experiences that replicate or exceed those in real-time physical proximity.
General Electric has recently announced a new cloud-based offering specifically for storing and processing medical images, which represents rapid maturation in the healthcare technology field. GE Health Cloud is set to roll out next year and includes a number of features which distinguish it from other efforts.
In this data-driven society it's hard to believe we still have difficulty finding the information we need. In fact, employees spend an average of 1.8 hours every day, 9.3 hours per week, searching and gathering information. SearchYourCloud (SYC) CEO, Simon Bain, realized this years ago after conducting a survey that found 20 percent of knowledge work is time wasted looking for stuff.
While Cisco might be to networking what Microsoft is to desktop software, even Cisco can't resist moving to the cloud. That means retraining nearly 14,000 employees around the world, according to TechTarget's SearchFinancialApplications.
