Leading communications service providers and their partners have come together to create a test environment to validate end-to-end interoperability of cloud, data center, and network services.
The effort is called the OpenCloud Project. Those involved include Alcatel-Lucent, Avaya, Comcast, Ciena,
Cisco (News - Alert), Citrix, CoreSite, Ericsson, Equinix, Juniper, HP, Huawei, Interexion, PCCW Global, Spirent Communications, Tata Communications, Telx, Verizon, and others.
The
OpenCloud (News - Alert) Project, an effort of the CloudEthernet Forum, came together in recognition that different data center operators, enterprises, and service providers use different application programming interfaces and other interfaces to communicate, and without interoperability initiatives the market potential for cloud services is “severely limited.”
Among the more specific challenges is the difficulty of getting end-to-end Service Level Agreements spanning compute, data center, network, and data center environments. Another barrier is often the lengthy turn up times involved with network services, which are frequently part of cloud service turn ups. There’s also a lack of auditable and enforceable unified risk management related to compliance, privacy laws, and regulations, according to the group...Read More
