Antig Technology, along with AVC Corporation, partnered together to deliver the first commercially available integrated fuel cell for notebook PCs.
The CD-ROM sized fuel cell pack runs on methanol fuel, a colorless, odorless and nearly tasteless alcohol that has been considered a possibility for large volume motor fuel substitutions.
Because of the demand for extended power, high-performance devices, such as notebooks and handhelds are prime mechanisms for using a fuel cell power source as it provides a better alternative to the short-lived battery life.
The methanol fueled power system from Antig and AVC offers 45 Watts on a hybrid power structure and with one cartridge, can power the notebook PC for up to eight hours.
AVC expects to ship its fuel cell products later in 2006. For fuel cell pack ODM/OEM service or more information, AVC will be located at this year’s CeBIT event.
