Minacom Certifies Trilithic DSPi Cable Analyzer for VoIP Testing

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Associate Editor

VoIP test solutions provider Minacom announced today its certification of Trilithic’s 860 DSPi Digital Cable Analyzer.

The 860 DSPi is now the first handheld cable tester officially compatible with Minacom’s PocketDQTM system and its PowerProbe RTP test agent.

The designation also makes Trilithic a Gold Partner in Minacom’s Certified VoIP Test Integration network.

Testing of Trilithic’s analyzers was performed both in the lab and in the field. The certified interoperability includes the following functions:
  • Ability to control VoIP day-of-install and troubleshooting tests using PocketDQ on the 860 DSPi
  • Quick execution of standardized test plans
  • Conducting of end-to-end testing from the gateway’s T1 PRI using a PowerProbe 30 connected to a 2-wire phone jack
  • Storage of PocketDQ results on the DirectQuality R7 server
Trilithic earned the certification in large part because of its unique support for Minacom’s TRP Reflection tests on the 860 DSPi.

“RTP Reflection tests use Minacom’s RTP Streamer Test Agent running on a PowerProbe service level test probe to create test streams that can be looped back by any Trilithic 860 DSPi located in the field – either at a subscriber premise or at any point within the HFC,” Minacom explained in a press release.

A key component of the interoperability discussed here is Minacom’s PowerProbe 30, which the company claims is the industry’s “smallest comprehensive test solution available for VoIP acceptance testing and troubleshooting.”

PowerProbe 30 is capable of performing analysis of more than 60 VoIP metrics, including:
  • Speech Quality (MOS)
  • Call Connectivity
  • Network Responsiveness
  • Codec performance (Packet Loss, VAD)
  • Echo
  • Noise
  • Voice Path Delay
  • Frequency Response
  • DTMF detection
  • Fax Transmission metrics
“By integrating Minacom’s test technology within the 860 DSPi, cable operators can avoid purchasing costly, dedicated VoIP testsets for each technician,”  Minacom’s CEO, Michel Nadeau, noted in a statement.

At the SCTE CableTex EXPO this week (June 20-23), Minacom (booth #1931) and Trilithic (island booth #662) are demonstrating remote testing from the DirectQuality R7 platform to 860 DSPi analyzers.
