Comverse Technology announced on Tuesday that it has completed all procedures to acquire privately-held VoIP software developer Netcentrex, for approximately $159 million in cash.

 

With the merger, the companies will combine Netcentrex's software for IP-based triple-play (voice-video-data) and fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) services with Comverse's set of billing services to target operators deploying services in the VoIP and IMS markets.

 

"The acquisition of Netcentrex is yet another example of our strategy to augment the strong product portfolio and market presence of our business units with talented people and leading technologies focused on emerging growth opportunities. We believe this combination opens new avenues of growth for Comverse, and strengthens its position as a leader in VoIP and IMS-related solutions," Comverse's interim chief executive officer Raz Alon in a statement.

 

Comverse had first announced its plans to acquire Netcentrex back in April. TMCnet's Greg Galitzine, editorial director of Internet Telephony, spoke to Netcentrex' s vice president of marketing, Brian Mahony, regarding the acquisition.

 

"Brian told me that the deal should be seen as a positive. 'It's a great thing for Netcentrex. One only has to look at our respective product offerings to see that the two firms are very complementary. Comverse has many relationships with Tier 1 carriers, and this new combination turbocharges our growth efforts in the global markets where Netcentrex already plays.'"
