Marcatel Deploys Xtera 6400 Optical Transport Platform to Accelerate Triple-Play Service OfferingsBy Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributing Editor Optical solutions provider Xtera Communications is offering its optical transport platform (OTP) to Marcatel in a bid to accelerate the deployment of a broad range of communications services.
Marcatel is a telecommunications service provider offering voice, data, and video communications in the Mexican and U.S. markets and provides triple-play services in the Mexican markets. The company is deploying Xtera 6400 OTP to aid the transformation of its entire network to meet customer requests for advanced video, voice and data oriented services.
Xtera 6400 OTP provides a scalable platform on which a broad range of services can be deployed. It also minimizes the need to pre-plan for service types and greatly improves the flexibility of service routing.
Xtera’s optical transport platform supports both existing services and new Ethernet based services for video, voice and data. In addition, it provides space for network growth to provide additional routes for both service and restoration needs and it can support a variety of architectures and services including 2.5Gb/s, 10Gb/s, Ethernet (1GbE, 10GbE), Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) and storage area network (SAN) services. It is also a flexible Reconfigurable Optical Add Drop Multiplexer (ROADM (News - Alert)) technology, which helps Marcatel to re-route services quickly and avoiding the need for technicians in multiple sites. “Marcatel is building a state-of-the-art network to provide its customers with the convergent services that they need and demand,” said Manuel Andrade, Senior VP Sales Americas & Iberia, Xtera Communications (News - Alert). “We are honored that Marcatel entrusted Xtera with a key role in a mission-critical project that extends Marcatel leadership well into the future.”
