M Resort Spa Casino Offers Unified Communications from Nortel, MicrosoftBy Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributing Editor The M Resort Spa Casino in Las Vegas is utilizing a hospitality solution that is based on unified communications from Nortel and Microsoft Corporation. Built at a cost of $1 billion, the M Resort held its grand opening on March 1. It is one of the first “all-IP” resorts in Las Vegas. M Resort has been built with products from Nortel and Microsoft Innovative Communications Alliance (News - Alert). These products were provided through Nortel’s channel partner EMBARQ. Nortel also provided on-site unified communications consulting services. According to Joseph A. Magliarditi, the chief operating officer and executive vice president of M Resort Spa Casino, the resort will anticipate every guest's needs and make sure it exceeds their expectations from the time of check-in to the time they check-out. The unified communications solution from Nortel and Microsoft (News - Alert) will help M Resort to provide its guests with quick and seamless service. The color touch-screen VoIP phones at the resort provide guests with quick access to everything they would require. This includes spa appointments, dinner reservations, show times and tickets, latest weather reports, toothpaste and extra pillows. Every guest room is equipped with voice over wireless LAN handsets as well. The M Resort will be able to enhance and streamline business and casino operations with the help of unified communications. Features like click-to-call, voice mail, instant messaging, e-mail and video conferencing have been integrated into the Microsoft desktop environment which will enable instant staff collaboration. Since this integration will reduce the number of devices staff members must learn to use, training will also be simplified. Nortel (News - Alert) Communication Server 1000 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 are included in the all-IP unified communications solution, as are Nortel's Contact Center, Hospitality Messaging Server 400, Application Gateway (News - Alert) 2000, Voice over Wireless LAN solution and IP phones.
