Allied Telesis Releases iMAP 11.0, Supports HDTV, VoIP

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

IP and Ethernet access solutions company Allied Telesis reportedly has released version 11.0 of its integrated Multiservice Access Platform, a move that’s expected to bolster the feature set for both fiber-to-the-home and Triple-Play-over-copper deployments.

Officials at the San Jose, California-based company say an increase in HDTV and live Internet video feeds has led to an increase in bandwidth demands by subscribers. As a result, the company enabled the bonding of ADSL2+ copper pairs by implementing G.Bond on the iMAP ADSL line cards. With G.Bond, separate copper pairs to the same subscriber can be bonded together via software. This capability increases the bandwidth levels that can support multiple HDTV streams, Video on Demand, VoIP and Internet traffic.

Stressing the importance of ADSL2+ bonding, Eric Anderson, director of Engineering, Construction and Operations for Matanuska Telephone, said that bonded DSL allows a company to offer more HD channels to existing subscribers, and access new customers they could not reach before. The company has already tested the R11 beta and intends to implement it into their iMAPs next year.

Allied Telesis (News - Alert) also says it’s the FX20 service module for the iMAP for Triple Play deployments with enhanced QoS capabilities. Pictured at right, Version 11.0 allows Allied Telesis customers to perform rate shaping and limiting per service, per port. The company points out that this will provide sufficient bandwidth for HDTV and Video on Demand in addition to opening the door for multi-tiered Internet service packages.

Officials at Allied Telesis also say they’ve included a number of robustness features and enhancements in iMAP 11.0, which can bring down the Total Cost of Ownership for their service provider customers with new maintenance and configuration support capabilities.

The enhancements were made following multiple, in-depth user group sessions that encouraged customer feedback. This activity played a key role in their development decisions, according to Bill Allen, vice president of Sales and Operations, Allied Telesis.

“We are committed to build products that meet customer’s needs and build better networks,” Allen said.

As TMCnet has reported, Allied Telesis recently launched new firmware release of v3.7 for the iMG600/700 MOD gateway family with an aim to help Service Providers manage their networks in a more effective manner. Equipped with a modular HPNA LAN module and diagnostics, the new release allow service providers to isolate in home wiring problems before sending out someone to investigate.
