Fonality Unveils HUD 3.0 UC Platform Featuring Mobile and Google Talk Integration

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Fonality (News - Alert), a provider of open source unified communication (UC) systems for businesses, has announced a major upgrade to its unified communications platform, HUD. The company has released HUD 3.0.

HUD integrates presence management and detection into a single interface, which can be used by employees for all types of office communications — SMS, instant message, landline calling, mobile calling, chat, voicemail, e-mail, conferencing, recording and barging.

Chris Lyman (News - Alert), CEO at Fonality, said in a statement that HUD 3.0 brings short messaging service (SMS), mobile integration and many more unified communication features to the company’s PBXtra and trixbox customers, allowing employees to work together whether at the office, home or on the road.

Built on the HUD platform, HUD 3.0 delivers a unified communications dashboard that shows who is available, both onsite and remotely. Company officials said with this offering, it’s easy to drag and drop calls onto somebody’s desk or mobile phone. In addition, the sessions that start on chat can be instantly converted to voice calls.

Also, equipped with photo caller ID, HUD 3.0 puts a face with a number, bringing the system to life with real people and making it easy for everybody to react and connect, according to officials.

Using HUD 3.0, phone-based sales and support teams can manage call center questions. Also, HUD now supports integration with premise-based and hosted customer relationship management (CRM) systems, without having to write custom code.

Officials said that Google (News - Alert) Talk integration opens up the HUD chat feature for instant communications. With the integration of Google, users of HUD 3.0 can communicate and stay connected with Google Talk users.

Google Talk IM can be downloaded to any desktop, BlackBerry or iPhone (News - Alert), enabling users to interchange email and chat contacts, and see who’s online and available for calls and messaging.

At the time of having a conference, HUD 3.0 displays the names and faces of everybody on a conference call, and also allows them to instant message (IM) conference participants.

HUD 3.0 is on track to be generally available in October.

Earlier this year, Fonality and BroadSoft (News - Alert) certified that their products work together, enabling service providers to market and deploy Fonality to their small and medium-sized business (SMB) customers.

Fonality is a Diamond sponsor of INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO — the biggest and most comprehensive IP communications event of the year. ITEXPO takes place this week (September 16-18) in Los Angeles, California, and features three valuable days of exhibits, conferences, and networking opportunities you can’t afford to miss. Visit Fonality at booths #402 and #OS 02 in the exhibit hall.
