Metito Deploys UC Solutions from Nortel and Microsoft

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Metito, an international water treatment, desalination and wastewater treatment specialist based in Dubai, has adopted unified communication (UC) solutions from Nortel (News - Alert) and Microsoft, the company announced today. The UC solutions are installed at Metito’s new corporate headquarters at TechnoPark in Dubai.

Through the UC solutions, Metito empowers its employees with timesaving advantages of real-time collaboration via simple one-click access to wireless telephony, emails, instant messaging and video conferencing, the company said.

In its new infrastructure, Metito integrates Nortel communications solutions with Microsoft (News - Alert) Office Communications Server 2007. Using this integrated facility, Metito’s employees can access and share information using their PDAs, smartphones, or laptop PCs. This facility is available to all employees inside the headquarters complex.

“Working with Nortel, we have created an optimized unified communications network that's simple to manage, and capable of supporting new services as we need them,” said Naseem Ul Haq Zaki, chief information officer, Metito Group IT, in a statement. “The initial network is already serving 60 employees and is capable of supporting more than 400 people as our communications needs evolve.”

According to Zaki, Nortel’s Innovative Communications Alliance (News - Alert) with Microsoft enabled simple integration of unified communications with the existing business process of Metito. Innovative Communications Alliance was established with the purpose of integrating IT and telephony infrastructures and applications of Nortel and Microsoft, bridging today's communication and collaboration silos to deliver unified communications.

Zaki further said the company is looking for environment friendly and energy efficient products like Nortel Ethernet Switches in its facility.

“Metito's global success depends on having great products and services, maximizing operational efficiency and driving employee productivity,” said Hassan Hamadani, marketing manager, Nortel Middle East, in a statement.

Referring to a report by Peter Brockmann (News - Alert) and Steven Taylor, Hamadani said unified communications can boost productivity of a business by up to 18 percent. Another study, “Unified Communications (News - Alert) ROI Calculator,” developed on behalf of Nortel with Nemertes Research, suggests that UC can lead to a return on investment of up to 250 percent, Hamadani said.

“These are the kinds of business benefits that ensure a customer like Metito can maximize return on investment through technology that also ensures the longest possible solution lifecycle,” Hamadani concluded.

“Metito's Unified Communications platform consists of an integrated, modular set of solutions that brings together voice, audio and video conferencing, data and mobile applications to optimize operational efficiencies, significantly reduce operating costs and streamline business processes,” said Tareq Mandou, product marketing manager, Microsoft Gulf, in a statement. “Unified Communications solutions harness the power of software to deliver a complete end-to-end communications platform, across familiar applications and devices that people use every day.”

Metito has installed Nortel's Ethernet Routing Switch 8300 and Ethernet Routing Switch 5520 for its always-on network. Additionally it has set up Nortel Communication Server 1000 for Internet Protocol (IP) telephony and Nortel IP handsets. Nortel wireless local area network (WLAN) 2300 portfolio for wireless connectivity enables employees to work from any desk or on the move.
