Vlingo, foursquare Enable 'Check In,' Other Features by Verbal Commands

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

Vlingo Corporation, a provider of intelligent voice applications that can turn words into action, announced a new feature for Android (News - Alert) users that will help them use foursquare by just speaking into their phone.

Foursquare is a mobile application that makes it easy to explore new places. It is a friend-finder, a social city guide and a game that challenges users to experience new things, and rewards them. Company sources explained that a seamless integration allows users to now speak into their phones for check in, connect with friends or even give an update on foursquare.

In a release Hadley Harris, vice president of Marketing at Vlingo (News - Alert) said, “Location and social networking have become an integral part of consumers’ everyday lives, so having a strategic alliance with foursquare to provide users with a simple, easy way to connect with their friends is a natural fit for Vlingo.”

“Vlingo’s mission is to quickly connect our customers to the people, businesses, and services that are important to them. Integrating with foursquare’s industry leading platform is a natural way to help facilitate those connections,” Harris added.

Holger Luedorf, vice president of Mobile and Partnerships for foursquare added that he was pleased that Vlingo will be supporting the foursquare platform. This will make it easier for Android users to check in and communicate with friends through foursquare. Vlingo is broadening the consumer appeal of foursquare, Luedorf noted.

Vlingo’s integration with foursquare allows users to easily connect with friends and family. By just speaking into their Android device, users can use their voice to launch foursquare and check into locations like Hong Kong Express and Logan Airport.

The application helps locate friends and also explore if there is someone nearby. Users can send shout outs like giving there current location or activity.

Users will be able to share Vlingo with friends easily via the “Share Vlingo” button. They can also update Facebook (News - Alert), Twitter and foursquare simultaneously by just saying “social update” and speaking out the update.

Vlingo for Android also powers some tasks on Android devices.  Users can press the “Vlingo widget” in order to send text and email messages; search the web using Google (News - Alert) or Yahoo!; update Facebook and Twitter status and open built-in and 3rd party applications.

Users can now speak into any application with the Vlingo Everywhere voice keyboard and access SafeReader to hear incoming text & e-mail messages while driving. SuperDialer offers a one-click calling to an infinite address book, reviews, maps and directions for any business. Vlingo is the safest and easiest way to get things done while traveling. It also allows sending text and e-mail messages, searching the Web, using Google maps and updating Twitter among other uses.
