Cloud Telecomputers Named as Final StartupCamp Presenter at ITEXPO
Fifth Speaking Slot Added After Record Number of Submissions; Audience Members will Play 'Investor' with $3M of Play Money
LOS ANGELES - Sept. 27, 2010 - Cloud Telecomputers (News - Alert), a startup aiming to disrupt the notion of the traditional office telephone, has been added to the four previously selected early-stage companies primed to present their visions of the future at "StartupCamp, Communications Edition," to be held the evening October 4th at ITEXPO (News - Alert) at the LA Convention Center.
StartupCamp, a joint production of TMC, a leading global media company based in Norwalk, Conn. and Embrase Business Consulting of Montreal will be a fast-paced, "ready, set, pitch" event that gives selected entrepreneurs only five minutes to pitch their communications innovations to an audience of industry leaders, media and investors. In addition to Cloud Telecomputers, next week's presenting startups will include GroupMe, VAL9000, Vokle and AdelaVoice.
Event co-founder Larry Lisser (News - Alert) said selecting a fifth company was no easier than choosing the first four, given the high quality of the almost 35 applications. Among the other companies that received serious consideration for the fifth spot were TellFi, Diner Connection, InTooch long with the The 2600hz Project.
Cloud Telecomputers will present how its innovative Glass platform, based on the Android OS, brings all the best functionality of a smartphone to the desk phone -- enabling customized phone features and applications for businesses.
The organizers also announced a charity connection to StartupCamp that is sure to add intrigue to an already high-energy evening. Audience members will each receive up to $100,000 in play money, and with it instantly become "angel investors" for a night. Once all the companies have presented, attendees will be asked to "place their bets" by creating a portfolio of at least two of the startups. A charitable contribution will be made in the name of the startup that receives the most "venture capital."
Twilio, a leader in the fast-growing field of cloud communications, is back as the Platinum Sponsor of StartupCamp, which co-founder and CEO Jeff Lawson said he is proud to be an important part of. "StartupCamp showcases the never-ending stream of innovation in communications that flows from the many bright minds the industry is attracting," he said. "We're trying to do our part to foster this."
Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) and Skype also are sponsoring the event, which debuted at ITEXPO in Miami earlier this year. Xobni CEO Jeff Bonforte (News - Alert) will open the evening as the keynote speaker.
