ITEXPO East: 4GWE Leaders to Discuss the Future Mobile Video

By Erin Harrison, Senior Editor

As mobile video becomes more pervasive, video applications are sure to benefit from 4G’s increased bandwidth and ubiquity according to industry leaders and senior-level executives. “The Future of Mobile Video” session will take place on Thursday in conjunction with ITEXPO (News - Alert) East collocated 4GWE Conference.

The session will be moderated by Radvision’s (News - Alert) Anatoli Levine, director of product management, Americas. In an interview with Levine at the Miami Beach Convention Center on Wednesday, he said “There is more desire and more opportunity to communicate over video. People have started to consume content and they are only going to continue to do so. 4GWE should simplify that.” Video applications will benefit from 4G’s increased bandwidth and ubiquity, Levine added.

The session panel includes: Bryan Taylor, CEO, Anderson Taylor; Joe Mele, vice president of Dialogic Media Labs, Dialogic Corporation; and Jon Medved (News - Alert), CEO of Vringo

Mobile video applications range from one-way content consumption, such as mobile TV, to real-time, bi-directional video. “The Future of Mobile Video” session will examine the demand for wireless video applications and whether 4G technology will make real-time, two-way video a common element in day-to-day communications.

Among the questions that will be addressed are: Is 4G’s big and ubiquitous pipe enough to drive a breakthrough in demand for real-time video? What does “video everywhere” mean for the device and how will the devices drive demand for wireless video applications? Do we need new set of application tools and standards to build these devices? Do we need to wait for HTML or other standards to appear to make mobile video common? Or may we need no standards at all?

“Because it’s ubiquitous and it reaches anywhere on any device nowadays presents a challenge…but that doesn’t necessarily means we need a standard or to enforce how systems connect with one another,” Levine said. “Standards have to evolve. They can be limited and reduce your competitive edge. On the other side, adhering to the standards can increase your ability to compete,” Levine said.

“The Future of Mobile Video” 4GWE Conference session will be held on Jan. 21 from 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.
