Mobile Broadband- New Applications and New Business ModelsBy Marisa Torrieri, TMCnet Editor With 4G - and its promise for super-speedy Internet service - on the way, the U.S. is poised to provide customers with affordable broadband through multiple technology routes – whether LTE (News - Alert), WiMAX or local WISPS.
But a number of questions still remain for stakeholders. For example, how can operators leverage their core capabilities – like Quality of Service, security, billing and customer relationships – to provide the best applications to their customers?
Brough Turner (News - Alert), founder of Ashtonbrooke.com, delves into these issues in the first of his two sessions, “Mobile Broadband – New Applications and New Business Models,” at ITEXPO West 2009’s 4GWE Conference in Los Angeles on Tuesday, from 9 to 10:15 a.m.
“I’ll be giving an overview of new applications enabled by mobile broadband and open mobile access to the Internet combined with a discussion of new business models that can pay for continuing upgrades to what are, increasingly, ‘dumb pipes.’ Turner told TMC President Rich Tehrani in a pre-show interview.
Turner will also touch on how the iPhone store, Android (News - Alert) store and similar initiatives will present big opportunities for application developers and empower end users. He’ll provide answers to such questions as ‘What services can be provided over the top and what services need or can benefit from operator capabilities?’
For more perspective on 4G evolution, be sure to also check out the “Our G-enealogy,” session at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. In this insightful session, moderated by Turner, ITEXPO (News - Alert) attendees will learn how the history of cellular technology helps us gain an understanding of the converging 4G model of the world – and how to deliver wireless broadband services.
