By Brian Solomon, TMCnet Web Editor
Attractel Ltd. had released Zoiper 2.12 for Windows, which is the newest version of its IAX and SIP softphone, featuring a variety of new additions and fixes. Chief among the improvements is its new T.38 faxing ability.
A multi-platform IAX and SIP softphone, Zoiper is compatible with Asterisk ( News - Alert)—or any SIP-based IP-PBX , for that matter. It is available in Free as well as Biz editions—the chief features of which are the receiving of T.38 Faxes, Automatic provisioning (XML), TCP/TLS support with SIP, URL handling, Native conferencing, Outlook/Thunderbird Integration, API and Attended transfer. Both are available for Complete or Basic customization packages.
The new Zoiper boasts the faxing capabilities of Attractel’s Faxterisk release. It can receive faxes through SIP via any T.38 capable system. The new feature is part of Attractel's current plan to promote the Zoiper device as a reliable choice for software communications. Future versions of Zoiper are planned to support full faxing functionality.
Other Zoiper additions include features like TLS with SRTP support, certificate system reset option (in the Biz edition only); support for Yealink ( News - Alert) chipset-based headset/USB phones; Quality of Service functionality; DSCP fields for signaling and media; and Improved Zoiper Biz certificate system. It is recommended that all current users upgrade to the new 2.12 version for Windows.
