Packet Island to Demo VoIP Pro Field Services Kit at ITEXPO West 2007
By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Associate Editor
The FSK is a brief-case sized kit containing two micro-appliances for checking VoIP quality of service . The kit can perform a variety of tests, including:
- Lights-out LAN assessments (multi-hour and multi-day)
- Site-to-site WAN assessments (multi-hour and multi-day)
- Deployment verifications and VoIP network snapshots
- Live VoIP deployment troubleshooting
- Unlimited, comprehensive on-demand report
The FSK is was designed to give VoIP service providers deep visibility into customer networks, giving them the ability to observe factors that affect call quality. The kit lets providers pinpoint problems quickly and recommend the best solution to improve quality of service.
Packet Island created the FSK with a variety of clients in mind. This include VoIP service providers, value-added resellers, system integrators, consultants and professional service organizations.
On its Web site, Packet Island explains why the FSK is an improvement over other solutions on the market. The company points out that, until now, there were two types of VoIP lifecycle management solutions: software-agents and hardware solutions. Each of these falls short of the mark.
Software-agent solutions require “clean” PCs at each customer site. Hardware solutions are usually large and too expensive for the SMB market. The FSK takes a different approach, marrying an appliance with software-as-a-service (SaaS ( News - Alert)) delivery.
The micro-appliances in the FSK are inexpensive and have a small physical footprint—4”x4.5”. These appliances are controlled via an SaaS infrastructure, so the solution is flexible, simple to deploy and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to operate.
To see the FSK for yourself, stop by Packet Island’s booth (#342) at ITEXPO Sept. 10-12, 2007. Register to attend the event here.
