ClearSight Enhances VoIP Performance Testing with Analyzer 6.0
By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor
ClearSight Networks announced release 6.0 of its Analyzer software solution. The company, which provides analysis tools for next-generation networks, upgraded its software to enable more comprehensive and easier-to-use examination of VoIP performance.
“VoIP business success depends upon honoring the levels of quality and service that business and consumer customers have come to expect with competitive public switched telephone networks (PSTN ) offerings,” noted John Kenney, vice president of marketing at ClearSight, in a statement Monday.
Kenney continued: “ClearSight Analyzer 6.0 helps service providers and carriers, and business enterprises offering VoIP services, reduce the loss of customers at every stage in the customer lifecycle, from acquisition to retention to up-sell to loyalty, by monitoring and analyzing, investigating and resolving VoIP delivery issues to meet pre-existing expectations of standards before customers are adversely affected.”
Using the new software, VoIP service providers can quickly identify problems and drill down to resolution in real time; ClearSight 6.0 evaluates live network traffic and then presents a real-time assessment of network performance in a visually rich ladder diagram of packet flows.
Engineers can use the software to troubleshoot application, network, client and server problems without having to decode packets manually. A main screen is provided that presents an immediate and comprehensive overview of the network. Easy to use hyperlinks also enable engineers to freely drill down to see more detailed information.
According to Robert Smithers, CEO of Miercom—an independent product test center—gave ClearSight’s software kudos for its comprehensive network analyzer functionality, ease of use and unique user interface.
Release 6.0 of ClearSight’s software builds on the award-winning strengths of previous versions. Release 5.0 won a variety of industry recognitions, including Network World’s 2006 “Clear Choice” and “Best of the Tests” awards; Best Network Diagnostic Tool in Network Computing’s 12th Annual (2006) Well-Connected Awards; and Frost & Sullivan’s 2006 Network Management Solutions Technology Innovation of the Year Award.
The latest version includes support for MSN and Skype ( News - Alert), along with enhanced IPTV capabilities (e.g. video playback, video quality, channel zapping). Report generation, filter functions, multi-segment views, user interface, and toolbar also have been enhanced.
With all the benefits that VoIP has to offer the small business to the large enterprise, many are jumping on board. It is up to providers, however, to ensure that these organizations not only realize these benefits, but also do not compromise quality in doing so. ClearSight’s software provides the tools needed to do just that.

And which VoIP industry event will feature special attractions for service providers, resellers, and the enterprise and SMB market, as well as an overview on the future of IP Telephony? Answer: INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO EAST, January 23–26, 2007. See you in sunny Ft. Lauderdale!
