Siemens to Sell BelAir WiMAX Products Through Mobile Networking Portfolio

By Laura Stotler, TMCnet Contributing Editor

BelAir Networks and Siemens Networks LLC have announced a worldwide agreement in which Siemens (News - Alert) will market and sell BelAir products globally under the Siemens brand as part of the company’s mobile networking portfolio. The companies are already partnering on a number of projects for cable and cellular operators in the areas of WiMAX mesh deployments and cellular backhaul.

The Siemens suite of solutions leverages service providers’ assets to offer converged wireless solutions like the Siemens Wireless Integration @vantage (WI@), which offers web portal and voucher management, access control, authentication and accounting. When used with the BelAir Mesh radio and Siemens’ suite of professional services, the solution allows service providers to design, build and maintain wireless networks within existing core solutions. It also enables roaming and access network sharing.

The BelAir mobile broadband wireless mesh portfolio, when combined with the Siemens portfolio of wired, wireless, core and IMS products, enables the company to deliver wireless access alternatives to service providers, cable operators and mobile network operators.

The BelAir portfolio supports WiMAX, WiFi (News - Alert) and 4.9 GHz public safety. It features the four-radio BelAir100 Multi-service Node, the BelAir100C Multi-service Node with point-to-multipoint backhaul, the BelAir100S for cable operators, the single-radio BelAir50C and BelAir50S and the six-radio BelAir300 Converged Multi-service Wireless Node. All solutions are managed through the BelAir BelView Network Management System.

“We are pleased to work with BelAir Networks to deliver complete broadband WiMAX and WiFi mesh solutions to our cable, cellular, and other service provider customers,” said Joerg Lippert, senior vice president and general manager of Mobile Networks, Siemens Networks. “The BelAir family of products gives network operators a proven, carrier-grade solution that can deliver the broadband services their customers expect from next generation wireless networks.”

“Siemens is certainly one of the world’s most experienced end-to-end solution providers and we have enjoyed an excellent working relationship with them on a number of industry-leading deployments,” said Bernard Herscovich, president and CEO, BelAir Networks. “Working with Siemens enables BelAir Networks to address the increasing global demand for carrier-grade mobile broadband mesh networks, and extend our leadership in that market.”
