Koncept Chooses Jabber Platform to Add IM and Presence to VoIP Products

By Laura Stotler, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Jabber, Inc. announced that Koncept International, Inc. has chosen Jabber’s Extensible Communications Platform (Jabber XCP) as the foundation for advanced presence and messaging capabilities that it plans to integrate with Koncept’s VoIP products and softswitch platform.

Koncept will add instant messaging and other presence capabilities like “on the phone” indicators and click-to-conference to its primary solutions as part of the partnership. Koncept designs and develops patented VoIP technologies like telephone handsets, gateways and softphones. Its products feature integrated softswitch, billing and OSS platforms with worldwide call termination.

“We selected Jabber, Inc. because of their commitment to open standards, and Jabber XCP's scalability and extensibility,” said George Kuang, president of Koncept. “An easy integration with our existing Session Initiation Protocol (News - Alert) (SIP) and H.323 offerings was essential for us, and we believe strongly that the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) presence and messaging capabilities Jabber, Inc. delivers is a clear differentiator for Koncept which our customers will quickly find indispensable.”

”In the converging worlds of voice and messaging, the common threads are open standards and advanced presence services such as those Koncept plans to roll out,” said Tony Bamonti, senior vice president of Telecom for Jabber, Inc. “Because Koncept chose to work with Jabber, Inc. as opposed to solutions based loosely on SIP for Instant Messaging and Presence Leveraging Extensions (SIMPLE), they will gain the benefit of a much quicker deployment, lighter network load, and the extensibility to enable things like text conferencing, tight presence integration with corporate directories, and other services such as click-to-call.”
