Cinterion Selects Diabetech to Power its Wireless Diabetes Management Platform

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

Cinterion Wireless Modules and Diabetech, a provider of patient-centric health care programs, reportedly announced the introduction of the fourth generation GlucoMON platform which is a wireless diabetes management system.

The GlucoMON device employs the Cinterion’s TC65 Terminal and works with Diabetech’s Automated Diabetes Management System or ADMS. ADMS is an accurate system to manage data for monitoring and controlling blood glucose levels to prevent adverse effects of diabetes on patients.

Diabetech’s DMS incorporates the GlucoMON appliance which is a patient-centric diabetes education and management platform providing real time support to diabetics. The blood glucose meter is connected to the GlucoMON which leverages the Cinterion’s TC65 Terminal to trigger a series of automated care algorithms in any remote data enter. This is followed by analysis of the information to offer timely feedback to users who can take care to control their blood glucose levels.

“GlucoMON-ADMS is the perfect example of how smart M2M wireless technology can help improve quality of life, making disease management easier and ultimately making people healthier,” Peter Fowler, regional president, Cinterion Wireless Modules, Americas, said.

“We’re very proud to partner with Diabetech who is leading the industry in terms of health insurance coverage and clinical testing which are two mission critical components of telehealth solutions,” Fowler said. “Our combined strengths made it possible to quickly bring this 4th generation device to market bringing effective preventive health care to those in need.”

The platform is capable of distinguishing between patients and their individual needs. It helps adult patients maintain their blood glucose levels within safe levels while parents of younger patients will receive automated notifications of their child’s blood glucose levels when they are at school. Additionally, pregnant mothers who become diabetic during the pregnancy can get required guidance from doctors and nurses.

GlucoMON-ADMS connects patients to family members, Diabetech’s diabetes educators or any outpatient diabetes programs like Driscoll Children’s Hospital, Texas Children’s Hospital or Baylor Health Care System.

Kevin McMahon, Diabetech’s CEO, said that the health platform was created after years of working on many clinical trials and system refinements. The platform simplifies patient tasks, enhances services of providers, improves blood sugar control for patients and reduces health care costs.

Diabetech selected Cinterion Wireless Modules owing to its experience in cellular M2M communication modules and localized worldwide customer support for GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS and HSPA products.
