Global Crossing Intros High Definition Video Conferencing Service

By Jyothi Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Global Crossing (News - Alert), provider of IP solutions, announced its high-definition enhancements to its existing IP Videoconferencing service, offering crystal clear, face-to-face collaboration between dispersed business locations around the world.

The latest enhancements offer end-to-end high-definition video quality that is comparable to high-definition television programming, enriching the visual and auditory experience.

The company assures that the new service will help enterprises maximize their resources, accelerate decision-making, reduce travel and operational expenses, increase productivity, and create a fully integrated, interactive and efficient environment.

The service includes the ability to increase standard definition images up to four times regardless of the endpoint's capabilities, which provides an optimized meeting experience for all participants. In addition, interactive Web Reservations, Global Crossing's online scheduling tool, makes it simple to self-schedule and self-manage a global video program.

"This high-definition enhancement to our IP Videoconferencing service demonstrates our commitment to delivering cutting-edge, next-generation converged IP services that optimize our unique, highly reliable, resilient, global IP network," said Gary Breauninger, chief marketing officer.

He added, “With this improved service, customers enjoy remarkably clear picture quality and audio sound comparable to high-definition television transmission. The result is an increasing trend of videoconferencing usage as a highly cost-effective alternative to business travel."

According to the company, this enhanced service, was made possible through significant upgrades to the company's next-generation videoconferencing bridge platform and leverages its unique video assets via highly reliable global IP-based network.

The company’s IP Videoconferencing service makes it easy for enterprises to transition at their own pace to IP convergence, which is a consolidated network that runs voice, video and data on a single connection.

It also features a host of enhanced features, including universal encoding, which automatically encodes and decodes images at each site, thereby delivering the best possible data rates, frames per second, audio and video codec compression and transcoding.

In addition, the enhanced service facilitates H.239 content sharing in native high-definition format, which enhances visuals, such as application sharing and PowerPoint presentations for mission-critical applications in biotechnology, finance, medical, manufacturing and other fields.

Global Crossing’s offering includes a full suite of converged IP audio, Web and video collaboration services for virtually any meeting need. Their videoconferencing services include IP Video, iVideoconferencing and Video Endpoint Management Service supporting both ISDN and IP-based end points.
