Taqua 7000 Deployed by Two Idaho Communication CompaniesBy Michelle Robart, TMCnet Editor Taqua (News - Alert), a supplier of next-generation end-office switching systems and applications, today proudly announced that the Taqua 7000 Switching System (T7000) has helped two Idaho communication companies replace numerous legacy Class 5 switches, deploy new IP services, and attract more subscribers.
ATC Communications decommissioned eleven DMS-10s and deployed twelve T7000s supplying both TDM and IP services; while Walnut Communications switched out its legacy Mitel (News - Alert) switch for the T7000 to expand its customer base. The T7000 is used by both companies to provide legacy services, as well as SIP- or MGCP-based enhanced IP services.
“We have used the T7000 to initially replace our legacy Mitel switching system and now to help fuel our growth,” stated Bruce Heyne at Walnut Communications.
"We have expanded our addressable subscriber base nearly 10 fold expanding from the city of Walnut to now addressing seven additional communities. Growing subscribers is made very easy with the T7000's blade-based expansion capabilities. Last month we flash cut a couple of thousand subscribers over to our T7000 from a legacy DMS-100 in a neighboring community. This flash cut was amazingly quick and easy. We started at midnight and completed by the morning, with no issues along the way,” Heyne further explained.
"By replacing our legacy DMS-10s with T7000s, we have been able to provide our subscribers with services that go beyond traditional telephony and at the same time save on our operational costs," said Jim Meyers at ATC Communications.
"We noticed a significant decrease in central office power requirements after decommissioning the legacy DMS-10. Multiply those savings by 11 switches, our central offices and our new network of T7000s are providing ATC significant operational savings every single day,” added Meyers.
"Taqua is focused on delivering solutions that can increase revenues per subscriber, decrease operating costs, and make life easy for the service provider," said Scott Weidenfeller, chief marketing officer at Taqua. "The Taqua 7000 blade-based switching architecture allows the service provider the easiest and most cost-effective way to expand and offer new services, but at the same time the architecture can save service providers significantly on capital expenses and ongoing operational costs compared to any other alternative. Also, as Taqua is the only switching vendor focused on the small and medium sized service provider, our customer service and post-sales focus is second to none."
According to Taqua, the T7000 is the only field-proven next-generation Class 5 switch which has successfully replaced every brand and vintage of Class 5 switch in North America; all within a single 17" x 24" gateway-like chassis shelf.
Due to its compact footprint and its conservative resource requirements, the T7000 is practical for installation in numerous locations including collocation spaces or MTUs.
The T7000 is based on a patented blade-based switching design, in which all the functions of a Class 5 switch or IP gateway are performed on a single circuit pack. This means the field hardened T7000 can support a wide variety of protocols including SS7, SIP, MGCP, GR-303, CAS, NCS, PRI and others over line, trunk or IP interfaces. With the system's mobile interface card, the same gateway-like chassis can affordably deliver ubiquitous services to wireline legacy, broadband and wireless (2G, 3G or 4G) subscribers.
Founded in 1915, Walnut Telephone Company provides telephone, Internet, and cable services to eight communities in Southwest Iowa. The company uses the T7000 to provide TDM and MGCP-based IP services to its growing subscriber base in the region.
ATC Communications supplies local exchange telephone service for 11 communities in 5 counties, all located in Southern Idaho and Northern Utah. The company also provides a wide range of services within these communities including Internet, Cable TV, DSL and Long Distance services.
Established in 1998, Taqua is a supplier of next-generation switching systems and applications. With over 300 system deployments, the company's solutions are deployed by wireline, cable and wireless carriers as next-generation end-office exchanges. Taqua is the only supplier of next-generation solutions focused on the small and medium sized wireline and/or wireless carriers. Michelle Robart is a contributing editor for TMCnet.
