IPTV: GTA TeleGuam Launches Subscription Video On-Demand Service

By Raja Singh Chaudhary, TMCnet Contributor

GTA TeleGuam, a provider of comprehensive communications services such as local and long-distance telephone service, 3G wireless, DSL Internet access and IPTV services, will introduce a new subscription video on-demand (SVOD) service on its Guam Digital Television (GUdTV).

This service is available to the subscribers of a number of premium channels such as HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz and Encore at no additional cost; and will help the viewers in accessing their favorite episodes in the event they’ve missed them. Apart from offering the digital communications services, GTA (News - Alert) TeleGuam also operates a data center in Guam for offering business data storage and managed wide area networking.

“The launch of subscription video on demand (SVOD) is GUdTV’s first venture into premium VOD offers and it is the first deployment of premium on demand television in Guam,” commented Andrew Gayle, executive vice president of product development and management at GTA TeleGuam. “Just like video on demand, the new premium channel enhancement allows GUdTV customers to choose from hundreds of titles, series, or movies; start their selections at any time convenient to them, and; pause, rewind or fast forward with just a remote control and set-top box.”

The company will officially launch its subscription video on demand today (Jan. 18), and aims at adding more titles to its library upon their immediate availability. Customers need to subscribe to a certain premium television package before access it through the new SVOD, after which they can select main menu and SVOD on the main toolbar through their TV set-top box remote control. Existing subscribers of these premium channels will automatically get access to their SVoD programming.

Additionally, the subscribers of SVoD programming can access unlimited SVOD programming packages being offered under the brand name Disney (News - Alert) Family Movies at the price of $4.99 per month and Saavn at $7.99 a month. The Disney Family Movies package includes a bouquet of classic and contemporary films and animated shorts offered by Disney, while the Saavn offering comprises of Bollywood movies, TV shows, sports programming and live events from India.

In June 2010, GTA TeleGuam announced that it has started testing a new broadband access technology, Very high-speed Digital Subscriber Line 2 ‘VDSL2,’ for faster Internet connections. GTA TeleGuam’s communications services on Guam includes local and long-distance telephone service, 3G wireless, DSL Internet access, and advanced digital television, or IPTV (News - Alert).
