NetTALK.com VoIP Software App Overtakes Facebook, Skype in Canada

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Officials of NetTALK.com, who describe the company as a publicly-traded Competitive Local Exchange Carrier company, engaged in the sales of developed products and connectivity network phone service for the use of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), revealed its Free netTALK Smartphone Application is “the number one” downloaded iTunes App in Canada – above Facebook (News - Alert) and Skype.

Available on iPad/iPhone/iPod touch, Android, Blackberry, and Windows Mobile, it can be found at the company’s website and at the iTunes App Store.

This free Smartphone application is compatible with iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Android, Blackberry and Windows Mobile, and allows users to make free calls to the U.S. and Canada, via 3G, WiFi (News - Alert), or EDGE networks, company officials say, “without using valuable monthly cell phone minutes.”

Features include free calls to the U.S. and Canada, connectivity through 3G, WiFi, and EDGE networks, the ability to record conversations and import contacts from your Smartphone’s personal phone book, the ability to receive customized support by dialing #611 and dial #2663 for free conference calling bridge service.

There’s also free 411 directory assistance.

Features coming in 1Q 2011 include the ability to link your personal netTALK DUO phone number to the app for ultimate mobility, low-cost international calling, the ability to receive calls on smartphones through your personal netTALK DUO phone number.

In July TMC (News - Alert) had the news that NetTalk offers unlimited outgoing calls to USA and Canada at $69.95 the first year including the DUO device. The second year is $29.95.

That breaks down to $2.50 per month for free nationwide calling throughout the USA and Canada plus “all of our other calling features without monthly phone bills and contracts,” company officials said.

“Why would anyone want to use a "home phone" or a "business phone" that is not a cell phone or on a PBX (News - Alert) like this? There are millions. Plus, if the user can call in and out with DUO attached to a computer... it is mobile,” TMC wrote at the time.
