Business VoIP Provider Nextiva Locates Primary Data Center in Phoenix Far Away from Hurricane-Prone Regions

By Ed Silverstein, TMCnet Web Editor

Hurricane season is underway and U.S. data centers need to be protected from strong winds and flooding that can leave technology systems down for days. This morning, news reports told of how Hurricane Danielle became a Category 4 hurricane over the Atlantic. As this violent storm heads toward Bermuda – it may bring strong rip currents to the East Coast of the United States. In addition, Danielle's maximum sustained winds were near 135 mph.

Nextiva has planned ahead in order to protect against the damage from these kind of crippling storms.

That’s because Nextiva’s primary datacenters are located in Phoenix, Arizona – which the company says has been increasingly the location of choice for Fortune 500 companies to locate mission-critical infrastructure.

Being located in Arizona means Nextiva is not as prone to hurricanes, tornados, and earthquakes as other states, the company explains.

Nextiva also has redundant datacenter facilities in Los Angeles and New York City.

“We realize the significance of phone service for businesses. Phone (News - Alert) lines for a business must be reliable and offer superior sound quality. Since day one we've focused on our network quality and reliability; our company's growth is a result of our infrastructure/network and commitment to the customer experience,” says Nextiva’s Yaniv Masjedi. “We have found that the quality of our network has translated to customer satisfaction and growth.”

Nextiva also points out that network infrastructure is one of the most crucial points that distinguish service providers. What sets Nextiva apart from the majority of VoIP service providers is that Nextiva owns and operates its own network.

In times of service outage, having control over its own network makes a big difference in delivering a dial tone to customers. It operates on its own AS number, and all services run on fully portable IP address blocks assigned by ARIN (News - Alert) directly to Nextiva. The entire core network is powered by Cisco 6500 Series routers. All services requiring non-blocking throughput are connected directly to the routers through Gigabit connections. Nextiva also runs BGP with its internet peers to ensure that data will always take the best route to customers.
