Switchvox Mobile Applications Extend the Value of the Smartphone

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Switchvox Mobile applications for the iPhone (News - Alert) and BlackBerry are now available from Digium, the Asterisk Company. Designed to deliver advanced Unified Communications (UC) functionality to employees on the go, the applications are freely downloadable and integrate with the Switchvox (News - Alert) Voice over IP (VoIP) UC solution.

With integration into the enterprise system, Switchvox Mobile applications connect to the employee's phone extension so whenever a call is made through the app, it appears to be coming from a work phone instead of a mobile phone. Billing on the solution can be handled like any other call made from the office.

To place a call through the Switchvox Mobile app, workers on the go simply select a name from the company directory, dial the employee's extension from the keypad or return calls from the Voicemail and Call Log tools.

Switchvox Mobile applications leverage the capabilities of the smartphone to deliver such key features as the ability to control voicemail greetings, access the full company directory, view missed calls, check voicemail and return calls with ease. Rules can be set by the user when away from the office to ensure important calls are never missed.

"Today's workplaces are dynamic, with dispersed workforces and employees who are on the move or working in remote locations," said Tristan Barnum, director of Switchvox product marketing, in a statement.

"These new applications make it easy for employees to use their smartphones to stay connected to the office, which results in better customer service, increased productivity, and more flexibility for employees. We know it's important to meet the demands of the mobile workforce, and Switchvox Mobile keeps them connected no matter where they choose to work."

A powerful IP PBX (News - Alert), Switchvox integrates a Web interface with UC features such as fax, chat and video calling. With the most recent release of this solution, users can access the features they need to focus on the job they need to get done. With this next phase of connectivity, companies extend the value of their current Switchvox phone system.

Switchvox Mobile for iPhone and BlackBerry (News - Alert) are both free of charge and available now. iPhone users can access the iTunes App Store for compatibility with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. BlackBerry users can search BlackBerry App World to gain compatibility with the Bold, Curve, Pearl, Storm, and Tour models.

In other Digium (News - Alert) news, the company announced introduced the Digium Channel Certification program, enabling Digium channel partners to enhance their expertise in the business phone systems marketplace and increase their sales of Digium's unified communications and custom VoIP telephony solutions.
