HP to Provide Unified Communications to Global Crossing

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Proper utilization of storage capacity is an important aspect for the business of any company these days. Every company looks for ways to manage their storage space better with new technologies to get the best out their storage capacity. Now, Global Crossing (News - Alert) has selected HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array, or “EVA,” solutions to improve storage utilization.

HP StorageWorks Business Copy EVA and HP Continuous Access EVA are array-based applications that utilize a simple Graphical User Interface to create, manage and configure local replication on the EVA 3000/4x00/5000/6x00/8x00 series storage arrays. HP Replication Solutions Manager EVA 3.0 manages all local and remote replication features across the full EVA array storage family.

HP EVA allows the companies to implement collaboration technologies across their internal, company-wide operations. Global Crossing can quickly assign available storage space as business needs change as EVA offers an easy-to-use management interface to the company. It also helps the company to manage its underutilized storage capacity.

“To deliver the highest quality of customer service to our own employees, we needed a solution that improved storage efficiency and utilization with proven reliability to support deployment of our unified communication platform, as well as other internal enterprise-critical applications and services,” Gerald Carr, director, Technical Architecture and Strategy, Global Crossing, said. “Since 2007, our storage requirements have grown significantly year over year.”

HP EVA caters to the storage needs of more than 5,000 internal mailboxes that offer up to 1 gigabyte of storage each. Global Crossing’s server virtualization and SAN strategies are also supported by EVA’s virtualization capabilities. HP EVA features HP StorageWorks Business Copy EVA software.

Recently, International group of supermarket companies Ahold extended its existing contract with HP Enterprise Services by signing a new seven-year infrastructure and applications services agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, HP will continue to provide management and support services for Ahold's global data centre environment, which includes mainframes, servers and storage. HP will also implement HP Business Service Automation in this contract.
