Arapahoe Telephone Company Selects Adtran Solutions for FTTN DeploymentBy Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor Arapahoe Telephone Company has reportedly selected Adtran, Inc. for its Fiber-to-the-node deployment. The Adtran solutions chosen for deployment are Total Access 5000 Multi-Service Access and Aggregation Platform and Total Access 1124P Outside Plant Broadband Multimedia Gateway (News - Alert).
Arapahoe sought a network upgrade to enhance its ability to offer broadband services to all of its customers. The Adtran solution will provide Arapahoe with an access network capable of supporting broadband.
According to John E. Koller, general manager, Arapahoe Telephone Co., the Total Access 5000 had the best mix of transport and access technologies to meet all of their needs. Arapahoe is building a core network of Total Access 5000s and expanding to lower line count areas with the Total Access 1124Ps. The Adtran solution is a more cost-effective solution when compared to retrofitting legacy cabinets. In addition, it also provides the added benefits of shortening loop lengths for broadband service delivery.
The Adtran Total Access 5000 is a carrier class multi-service access and aggregation platform with an all-Ethernet core. It bridges the gap between existing and future networks. The Total Access 5000 supports both legacy and emerging service interfaces over copper and fiber, scaling to support bandwidth-intensive applications. In addition, Total Access 5000 also provides a migration path for traditional services through its flexible network uplink options, including support for both TDM and VoIP switches.
The Total Access 1124P combines the technology and cost saving benefits of an OSP BMG with a POTS to Voice over IP gateway to expand service delivery in the access network. This lets service providers deliver baseband POTS and broadband multimedia to any customer over a single phone line. The 24 ADSL2+ ports and 24 POTS ports of the Total Access 1124P make it the ideal size for rural FTTN applications. The Total Access 1124P operates with Adtran's Total Access 5000 MSAP family.
According to P. Steven Locke, vice president of sales, service providers, Adtran Carrier networks division, fiber-to-the-node is a great way to utilize the existing copper infrastructure for delivery of enhanced broadband services. Since the Total Access 1124P is sealed, hardened, and uses line powering, the cost of deployment is kept to a minimum.
The solutions from Adtran, Inc. allow voice, data, video, and Internet communications across copper, fiber, and wireless network infrastructures. Calvin Azuri is a contributing editor for TMCnet. To read more of Calvin’s articles, please visit his columnist page. Edited by Amy Tierney
