Ceragon's IP Solutions For Stelera's Wi-B Network

By Vivek Naik, TMCnet Contributor

Ceragon Network has announced that its FiberAir IP solutions are being deployed by Stelera Wireless to help extend the reach of its existing Wireless Broadband (Wi-B (News - Alert)) data-exclusive pure play network to underserved and previously unreached parts of the U.S. that include rural settings, for a deal that is worth at least $ 1 million in equipment supply.

"Ceragon (News - Alert) solutions allow us to cost-efficiently build a wireless network that is optimized for delivering high-speed, value added data services," said Ed Evans (News - Alert), Chairman and CEO of Steler. "Our company is determined to bring broadband connectivity to consumers that, until today, were virtually disconnected. Using Ceragon solutions we can now expand our network reach and serve new markets more quickly."
This move is well aligned with President Barack Obama’s vision, which was signed into law as a small part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 initiative, reported TMCnet, that primarily desires all Americans, especially unserved, rural and underprivileged citizens, must have the maximum possible continuous access to wired broadband and Wi-B as soon as possible since broadband is gaining in popularity, reported TMCnet, and it is expected to expose potential users to the same wealth of information, ideation and opportunity that existing users experience.
Stelera leverages High Speed Packet Access (HS PA) technology, holds more than 41 licences to provide bandwidth that has the potential to reach six million citizens spread over 300 cities in ten states and is getting the infrastructure ready to serve 55 of these cities by the end of 2009.
HS PA, reported TMCnet, accounted for nearly 72 percent of all Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) installations in the fourth quarter of 2008, and is a technology that improves the throughput for HS Downlink PA to 14.4 Mega bits per second (Mbps) and HS Uplink PA to 5.8Mbps, and is the 3GPP standard for an enhanced Universal Mobile Telecommunications System information exchange interface.
"We are very pleased to have been selected by an innovative wireless broadband service provider like Stelera," said Ira Plait, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ceragon. "Data applications will continue to drive the mobile backhaul market in developed markets. With its strong wireless IP solutions portfolio, Ceragon is well positioned to play a key role in the ongoing expansion of wireless broadband networks."
