Datacraft Incorporates Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Into UC OfferingsBy Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributing Editor Datacraft, an independent IT services and solutions company, has announced that it has enhanced its unified communications offering by integrating Microsoft (News - Alert) Office Communications Server 2007 Release 2.
The new service enables the company to offer more choices to its clients and enhances its ability to design and deploy solutions that are best suited to their requirements.
Office Communications Server 2007 R2 is a powerful platform that builds on Office Communications Server 2007 and allows for the creation of even better unified communications solutions.
“Datacraft takes advantage of the greater cost savings derived from deploying Office Communicator 2007 R2 for its clients, giving them significant communications benefits,” said Bharat Mirchandani, business group manager, Information Worker, Microsoft Singapore, in a statement. “We at Microsoft are excited to work with Datacraft to enhance our customers' experience and help foster better collaboration and productivity.”
Datacraft, a Dimension Data company, felt a growing demand from their clients for a model that is capable of measuring their organizations against a set of operational and strategic competency areas and helps them prioritize their investments in unified communications.
To meet this demand, Datacraft/Dimension Data launched the Unified Communications (News - Alert) Development Model (UCDM) last year. UCDM helps organizations assess their competence and capabilities in the area of unified communications and develop a roadmap for UC implementation.
A research commissioned by Datacraft /Dimension Data in June 2008 found that before embarking on a unified communications project, IT decision-makers need to consider a number of situations. The most important among them was to decide how it would align with the business strategy. Other important concerns were about deciding the right technology and then the right strategic plans for the successful implementation of unified communications.
Neville Burdan, general manager for Microsoft Solutions, Datacraft Asia, said, “With a unified communications strategy and roadmap in place, organizations that deploy Office Communications Server 2007 R2 will be in an ideal position to reap the benefits of exciting new features such as desktop sharing, persistent group chat and dial-in audio conferencing.”
“And for those organizations that already use Microsoft technologies for communication and collaboration, the synergy that comes through integration with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server will amplify these benefits, as well as allow them to maximize their current infrastructure investments,” Burdan added.
