Allied Telesis Intros Two Power Efficient 10/100TX Switches

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Allied Telesis, a company that provides secure Internet Protocol/Ethernet access solutions, announced the launch of AT-FS705LE and AT-FS708LE, two advanced 10/100TX low power unmanaged switches with five and eight ports respectively.

According to Allied Telesis (News - Alert), the AT-FS705LE and AT-FS708LE are affordable unmanaged switches that bring high performance Fast Ethernet switching to enterprise networks whilst using less power. They will replace the existing product versions with the same name starting January 2009.

The two switches are more energy-efficient than other entry level switching products. They feature power supplies that are Energy Star compliant to reduce power consumption. As a result, AT-FS705LE and AT-FS708LE consume up to 59 percent less power than the products they replace, Allied Telesis said.

For example, when connected to Ethernet cables, a device within the switches detects the cable length and drives less power to shorter cables. The AT-FS705LE and AT-FS708LE automatically switch to “overnight” mode when attached peripherals and computers are powered off, a statement from the company said.

Allied Telesis, a member of the Allied Telesis Group, is an industry leader in the deployment of IP Triple Play (News - Alert) networks over copper and fiber access infrastructure, a statement from the company said.

The POTS-to-10G iMAP integrated Multiservice Access Platform and iMG intelligent Multiservice Gateways, in conjunction with advanced switching and routing solutions, enable public and private network operators and service providers of all sizes to deploy scalable, carrier-grade networks for the cost-effective delivery of packet-based voice, video and data services, claims the company.

“Allied Telesis has challenged itself to deliver products that not only offer innovation and features, but are truly energy efficient,” said Melvyn Wray, senior vice president of Marketing at Allied Telesis.

“In the current climate, companies are looking to improve their environmental credentials and at the same time, continue to achieve best performance. The AT-FS705LE and AT-FS708LE both deliver just this combination,” Wray added.

In November 2008, Allied Telesis announced the first of its low-power ECO range of products under the brand name AT-9000/28. The AT-9000/28, according to the company, is an entry-level standalone Managed Layer 2 Gigabit switch with 24 copper Gigabit ports and 4 active copper Gigabit / SFP combo bays and is an improved and green replacement of the AT-9000/24 switch.
