Grandstream Sets Sights on 2009

By Greg Galitzine, Group Editorial Director

Grandstream Networks (News - Alert) designs and manufactures a series of innovative and affordable, IP voice and video products, including IP phones, IP video phones, a series of gateways, and an all-in-one IP PBX (News - Alert) appliance.

Most recently, the company announced the GXV3005 IP video phone, which features the same design and functionality as the GXV3000 with the addition of an FXO PSTN line port, which enables customers to receive video telephony service both over an IP network and their home landline.

Khris Kendrick, Sr. Director Business Development at Grandstream Networks spoke to TMCnet about his company’s successes in 2008 and his hopes for a brighter 2009.

GG: When you look back on 2008, was it a good year for your company?
KK: It was a very good year for Grandstream. We had record growth and maintained our dominance in the VoIP and Video market segment. We closed several large service providers that have standardized on our CPE devices. And Grandstream Networks Ranked Number 109 Fastest Growing Company in North America on Deloitte’s (News - Alert) 2008 Technology Fast 500. We predict similar momentum for 2009.

GG: What was your firm’s biggest achievement last year?
KK: Maintaining record growth in one of the worst economic times since the world declared that we have a global economy. We accomplished this by being very aggressive, strategic and innovative with our product launches in 2008. Such products include our new All-in-One IP-PBX appliance, Budget Tone 200 VoIP phone, GXP280 VoIP phone, 24-port FXS gateway and the GXV3005 Video phone with a FXO port.

GG: What can we expect to see from your company for the next 12 months?
KK: Continued innovation in the multimedia VoIP front. We will continue to dominate this area with exciting new products for the SMB and SME market. We believe that this market is underserved and we believe that we can achieve the number one status here.

GG: Do you think a new administration in Washington, D.C. will be good for the communications industry? If so, how? If not, why not?
KK: The Obama campaign team was the first candidate to use technology to reach constituents all over the world. We believe this will continue. I am sure that the President-Elect is feeling Internet withdrawal symptoms, now that the Freedom of Information Act has squelched his BlackBerry (News - Alert). But this shouldn’t stop the Administration from building a faster Internet.

GG: In your view, please describe the future of the IP Communications industry?
KK: Very simple, IP communications is going mobile. With more video sharing applications and devices, location-based services based upon tribal presence, and social network sites weaved into the experience.

GG: How do the current market conditions affect your potential customers? Do you think they will hold off on purchasing new solutions or do you think the economic conditions will spur them to make purchases that will allow them to be more competitive?
KK: Our stocking distributors are being more cautious about bringing on additional inventories even though they are still selling our products vigorously. Perhaps this is the correlation with new customers asking for our product because they are very affordable. Therefore, we are seeing greater demand from newer customers and ISPs.

GG: What sets your company’s solutions apart from the competition?
KK: Time to market, quality, price and affordability for multimedia devices and CPE’s, our competitors are unable to keep up this pace.

GG: If you had to make one bold prediction for 2009, what would it be?
KK: That the market will turn around faster than our original predictions; because the technology infrastructure and communication structure that we are a part of and built, will lend itself to rapid market rebound.
