8x8, Inc Joins Internet Society as Silver Member

The Internet Society (ISOC) has added voice, video and mobile communications specialist 8x8 (News - Alert), Inc. to its roster of Silver Members.

 

The recognition indicates 8x8 continues to make a valuable contribution to ISOC's efforts to ensure the open development and evolution of the Internet for the benefit for everyone.

 

As an organizational member of ISOC, 8x8 has now joined growing list of businesses, non-profit organisations, government agencies, educational institutions, and others who support ISOC's work.

 

“We are proud to join such an important and influential society which works to ensure there is not undue pressure exerted over the rights of all individuals to an open Internet, free of influence by any one corporation or special interest group,” said 8x8 Chief Technology Officer Marc Petit-Huguenin (News - Alert).

 

The idea behind creating an organization filled out with many industry insiders playing an important role in the Internet Society's Advisory Council is to help foster cooperation on matters affecting the general welfare and effectiveness of the global Internet and its users.

 

“8x8 has developed products and services in the past that are designed to be used in any open, neutral network such as the Internet,” said Petit-Huguenin. “As we continue to develop further innovative platforms, services, and technologies, we need to ensure that the power and potential of the Internet remains with every end-user and is not usurped by businesses or groups who would restrict access or employ technologies that are incompatible with this goal.”

 

ISOC President and CEO Lynn St. Amour said 8x8’s industry contributions are in line with the society’s overall goals.

 

"8x8's technology contributions and belief in promoting end user innovation are very important to maximizing the benefit people across the world derive from the Internet,” said St. Amour. “We look forward to the contributions their experience will bring through their increased participation in ISOC's activities."
