RADVISION Demos SCOPIA Desktop with Enhanced HD Capabilities

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributing Editor

RADVISION announced that it will demonstrate its SCOPIA Desktop with new high definition (HD) desktop video conferencing advancements which include HD motion video and HD data sharing at the IP convergence Expo taking place in Paris.

RADVISION SCOPIA Desktop users can send HD business quality video from a PC using a standard consumer USB Web camera. This leverages the SCOPIA Desktop’s HD 720p receive capabilities available now.

Conference participants will be able to see desktop participants on room systems or desktops. This enhances the conference experience as it is in full screen mode. The demonstration will make use of a Logitech (News - Alert) QuickCam Pro 9000 USB camera with RADVISION’s SCOPIA Desktop software on a standard PC.

RADVISION plans to implement HD data sharing using the H.264 HD codec technology for the H.239 data channel in SCOPIA Desktop. Data collaboration using the H.239 standard facilitates effective meetings between room systems and desktop video conferencing.

The HD support further enhances both video and data transmission delivering better bandwidth utilization. This greatly improves image quality and reduces delay even in conditions of low bandwidth.

SCOPIA Desktop is capable of extending room system based conferencing deployments. It allows remote users to participate in conferences enabling audio, video and data collaboration. SCOPIA Desktop includes freely distributable Web client, automatic firewall traversal, voice-video-data interoperability and end-to-end high definition.

SCOPIA Desktop can be used by anyone whether they are inside or outside the enterprise firewall. This enables participants to take part in conferences from where ever they are.

“As the market moves to high definition, users are expecting the same HD quality across any device they choose to participate with in the conference - not just for video, but also for presentations and other materials,” said Boaz Raviv, CEO of RADVISION.  “The high definition capabilities that SCOPIA Desktop now offers utilizing affordable off-the-shelf cameras and PCs are second to none in the market.”

Port licenses for SCOPIA Desktop is bundled with the SCOPIA platform. Although free it has to be requested by users. About 15,000 ports have been deployed in enterprises, governments, educational institutions and other organizations worldwide supporting tens of thousands of users.
